OTIS Cleaning Kit

otis1

SPEND MORE TIME SHOOTING AND LESS TIME CLEANING

The weapons OTIS cleaning system is radically different from any other on the market.
To properly clean a weapon you have to start from the breech to the muzzle.
Otherwise it may bring the carbonaceous residues from the muzzle of the barrel and, at the stroke end, what has been removed would end in the cartridge chamber.
The use of rigid pipe cleaners may damage the muzzle, affecting accuracy.
For these and other reasons OTIS has developed a special cleaning system that follows the direction of the bullet called breech-TO-MUZZLE.
Each kit contains MEMORY FLEX ROD, a steel wire coated with nylon capable of resist to more than 340 kg / 750 lbs of pulling force that  as well as allowing a cleaning Breech-to-Muzzle, unlike traditional rigid pipe cleaners, perfectly follows the rifling of the weapon, providing a deep cleaning.
This kit allows you to clean from .22 to .50 cal.
Finally, the strengths of KIT are the specific brush and its completeness: it contains everything you need to clean the gun and optics.
It also allows to solve stoppage and, for a safe handling of the weapon, contains a warning of cartridge chamber empty.
Finally, the kit includes a DVD instruction.

TIPS ON A GOOD CLEANING

Otis manufactures a wide range of cleaning kit for all uses and for all budgets.
It starts from the minimalist kit to be inserted into the pistol grip up to box such as the ”Small Arms – Armorer’s tools” and ”Couf” (Fight Combat Operations Utility) that contain all the necessary.

Here are the 6 DEVELOPED BASIC RULES BY OTIS:

1 – Always clean from the chamber to the muzzle
2 – center and not rub and beat the brush with the barrel and the muzzle
3 – use a clean patch at each passage
4 – Never use a ”brush” in the barrel before
5 – never reverse the direction of flow inside the barrel
6 – use only a few drops of solvent / oil

The Tourniquet

The Tourniquet saves lives but to do so must be used properly and be readily usable.

T0

Few seconds too long in the case of massive bleeding make the difference between life and death … In this post will not talk about how to use it but of everything else (which is just as important).
In the market there are different types of Tourniquet (from now on I will call TRQ) more or less valid:

3trq1

from left to right:
C.A.T. Tourniquet
Military Emergency Tourniquet Gen III
SOF Tactical Tourniquet

Once you have chosen a model is important to train to use in any condition.
It is vital to put in the right places and with the right systems on the equipment:

HOW
– accessible
– visible
– no locked inside pockets
– if closed (better not) use red color or medical symbol
– conditioned ready to use

PT

from left to right:
Blue ForceGear Tourniquet Now! Strap
Eleven 10 – Kydex Tourniquet Case
215 Gear Tourniquet/GP Holder

on my youtube channel you will find a simple and fast system to do this:

WHERE
– front, accessible from both the right and left
– above medikit
– in the pocket on the shoulder of the jacket (with a part external and visible)

TT

WHEN
– always
the TRQ must always be with us even when we are in base without Jacket and Armor (you never know what can happen, a rocket, a shooting, a suicide bombing…)

STANDARD
Within your team or your unit the position should be standardized so everyone knows where to find the others TRQ.
If there are differences in materials (who uses a war-belt and who uses only the jacket) should be sought to standardize the position.
If you just place it on BodyArmor and you are in situations where you use only the war belt remember to change the position.
In my opinion a good compromise is to have a TRQ always in a jacket pocket, a central one on the chest and one on the war-belt.

mimimi&trq

TACTICS
In addition to the self-rescue Tourniquet is used to help the wounded colleagues .
The standard Tactics usually (depending on the Army) said that the wounded should be treated with the Tourniquet that is on him.
But imagine the scenario:
The wounded man is on the ground 50 meters from us with an amputated leg and is unconscious to the explosion of a mine , we are not under fire , and we can help him , the Standard Tactics said to reach; take his TRQ and treat it.
If we have 2 Tourniquet take one of our 2 and we prepare it already in hand in the last few meters away from the wounded gaining precious seconds ( do not know if we find the Tourniquet on his body also ).Once applied the TRQ and stabilized the wounded we can take her TRQ to reintegrate our used (remember is to be done only if we have 2 TRQ).
It should be noted , however, that having 2 TRQ we always have one of beckup, as in the case of mutilation of a mine is very likely that it will serve two; one for limb ..
Also if you keep one to the right and one on the left you can more easily reach with your left or right hand.

USE
See the instructions for the use of their brand of Tourniquet
in the case of C-A-T can be found:

Are also fundamental:
medikit, blow out kit, coagulating agents, Israeli bandage, Celox, QuikClot, RipShears …
but we’ll talk about in other posts!

Hera Arms TRIARII silenced possible or not?

For those unfamiliar with the HERA ARMS TRIARII  you can watch these videos:

Given the demand received from several followers that is or is not possible to use a silencer on TRIARII i decided to post the answer in detail . . .

Assuming that the company does not certify the TRIARII for use with silencers now we analyze the reasons (for the Glock model):

1 – Length
The length of 15,6 cm / 6,14 inch from the muzzle of the Glock to the muzzle of the TRIARII is the major problem …

The dart stuck in the barrel makes it clear idea of the problem because with the slide locked open the dart touches even the TRIARII… So a silencer block the firing cycle makes it impossible to the proper functioning of the gun; perhaps it would be possible to shoot (as long as the silencer fit) but the weapon would jam…
2SLIDE
SLIDE4
2 – Cocking Handle
Another problem is the cocking handle of TRIARII (unlike the CAA RONI) is on the front of the Slide making it impossible to screw a silencer.
It would be possible to mount only having a longer barrel of at least 5 cm / 2 inch than normal but, in any case, it will go back to the problem described in point 1
charging
3 – The dimensions are not enough to use a silencer:
dim

For example, the Ti-RANT 9mm™ Pistol Silencer (AAC) which has a diameter of 1.38” is unusable

concluding:
No you can not use it with a silencer (perhaps it is by installing a custom +- 12 inch barrel)

HSGI Improved Bleeder/Blowout Pouch

traumaK2 copia

The Bleeder/Blowout Pouch is small but extremely useful (it may save a life) Pouch made by High Speed Gear and allows you to have readily available the basic necessities for treating traumatic injuries and massive bleeding.

2xBLOW

A Bleeder / Blowout Pouch is not intended as a substitute to the first aid kit but must serve only for the treatment of massive hemorrhage.
If you will be using the kit will probably in a situation of high stress, probably in inconvenient locations, with the sensitivity of the hands reduced by tactical gloves/situation and perhaps using only one hand.
The concept with which we have to set it up is that if you lose a few seconds more to get an item there can cost you your life then this item will must be included in the kit on the contrary, if the use of an item can be delayed slightly (tens of seconds) then the item will have to find a place in our First Aid Kit and not in the Bleeder Kit.

I precisely for the reasons specified above use it in a minimal configuration with only:
QuikClot Gauze, Israeli Bandage, Medical Shears.
I use the (essential) tourniquet on the center of the chest and i put a second one in the pocket on the shoulder as the SOP (read the article here), otherwise you may attachment it on the 2 sides of the pouch via rubber bands.
In each case the configuration up to the operator and must be configured only with items that you know how to use and which are indispensable!

components

Externally, I added a small piece of velcro for medical patches, a strip of red paracord to increase the grip on the Quick-Pull strap, and another small insert of red paracord on medical shears strap and snap.
I also added in a side a Retractable Scissor  Leash; very useful because the Medical Shears can be used over and over again and the use of a Retractable Scissor Leash is the only way to be sure you do not lose it.

Thanks to the 2″ wide Quick-Pull strap (high visibility red) the contents of the pouch can be reached in a moment, and even with one hand.

Quick-Pull strap

As the official site HSGI specifications are:
-Measures 3″ x 3″ x 7″ / 7,6 x 7,6 x 17,8 cm
-MOLLE/PALS webbing on sides for additional modular pouches or the attachment of a Tourniquet via rubber bands
-Has both hook and loop w/silencer strip and side release closure
-MALICE clips supplied
-Constructed of 1000 Denier Cordura nylon , sewn with 135/138 bonded nylon threads
-Constructed and made totally with products from in the USA .
-HSGI Lifetime Warranty

Regarding The Retractable Scissor Leash:
-Nylon coated stainless steel cable
-stainless steel spring and hardware
-36” / 91cm Extension Cable
-60 lb / 27 kg Breaking Strength
-6 oz Retraction Force
-Salt Water Proof
-Self-flushing
-High Break Strength

In conclusion the Improved Bleeder/Blowout Pouch is an excellent product of HSGI.
Severely tested by myself has proven reliability and confirmed the need to always have it with me.

The Bleeder/Blowout Pouch certainly accompany me yet for many years in Bad Lands . . .
Well done High Speed Gear ! !

300 AAC Blackout (7.62×35 mm)

18

With the evolution of the international situation and the introduction of asymmetric conflicts arises the need to have an ammunition capable of eliminate the modern threats of suicide terrorism.

The 300 BLK is in an intermediate position between the 5.56×45 and 7.62×39 ensuring a greater power of arrest compared to 5.56 and better ballistics than 7.62×39 and also has better subsonic performance than the 9 mm.

The 300 BLK presents then with high stopping power and a reasonable accuracy over short distances; is optimal for use with a sound suppressor and was created by Advanced Armament Corporation in cooperation with Remington Defense.

compar

The project was developed on the key points as mentioned before:
– stopping power
– good subsonic performance
– precision

But besides these he has wanted to develop a system to use the same M4 platform (300 BLK uses only a dedicated barrel) without distorting it:
– high-mass projectiles with high penetration
– optimal platform for sound and flash suppressed fire
– low recoiling, lightweight, durable package
– utilize existing inventory magazines 30 rnd with same capacity
– non-drastic changes to the M4 platform
– supersonic ammo with ballistics similar to 7.62×39mm

Projects similar to this are 6.8 spc and 6.5 Grendel but do not allow to have the Magazine to their full capacity of 30 rounds

8twin

The US Military rates the Max Effective Range of the M4 as 500 meters for a point target.
If the max effective range of the M4 with M855 at 2900 fps is 500 meters, than has 100 inches of drop, 41 inches drift, and 291 ft-lbs of energy at that distance.

A 16 inch 300 AAC BLK 125 grain at 2220 fps has:
-100 inch drop at 440 meters
-41 inches drift at 484 meters
-291 ft-lbs of energy at 700 meters

3

While the 300 BLK has far more energy, the military goes by hit probability.
If we consider than the drift and drop range is correlated with it probability, and discount the energy advantage of 300BLK, we get 462 meters for equal hit probability so using the M4 military standards, the max effective range of 300BLK from 16 inch barrel is 460 meters

From a 9 inch barrel at 2050 fps
-100 inch drop at 410 mt
-41 inch drift ay 470 mt
-291 ft-lbs of energy at 625 mt,
so 440 meter max effective range for 9 inch.

300 BLK from 9 inch barrel has the same energy at the muzzle as a 14.5 inch barrel M4, and about 5% more energy at 440 mt

A 300 BLK PDW compared to MP5-SD3 has approximately the same weight and the same size but 300 BLK has over two times the energy at the muzzle and even more down range
MP5-SD3 =>         115 grain at 900 fps & 6-9 MOA at 100 mt
300 BLK PDW => 220 grain at 965 fps & 1-3 MOA at 100 mt

Also using a silencer there is an increase in the cyclic rate of fire of only 16 % with 9-inch barrel compared to 34% of
M4 in 5.56 mm with 10.3 inch barrel.

The 300 BLK 9” PDW Sound Signatures ranging from 126 to 135 dB while:
MP5 – SD w / HK Silencer _126dB
M4 w / Silencer KAC SOPMOD _138dB
Mk23 _139dB
